Why Oregon City homeowners choose Oregon Deck Pros
We're based in Oregon City. This is our home market — we know the streets, the inspectors, the lumber yards, and the quirks of building anywhere from the historic McLoughlin neighborhood up to the newer developments around Beavercreek and South End. Oregon City has the most architecturally varied housing stock in Clackamas County: 1880s Victorians, 1920s craftsmans, mid-century ranches, 70s splits, and modern builds all sit within a few miles of each other, and each one calls for a different deck approach.
Our licensed Oregon CCB contractor handles the full range — from sensitive historic-district rebuilds in McLoughlin (where the Oregon City Historic Review Board has a say in materials and design) to straightforward composite installs in newer Beavercreek subdivisions. We know which boards meet historic-district guidelines, which finishes the review board has approved before, and how to navigate the bluff lots that drop steeply from upper Oregon City down to the Willamette River.
Most projects start with a free on-site walkthrough. We bring composite samples, take measurements, talk through what makes sense for your specific lot, and give you a written quote within 48 hours. No pressure, no upsell tactics.

Oregon City permits and HOA approval
Oregon City requires a building permit for any deck attached to the house or more than 30 inches off the ground. Permit applications go through the Oregon City Community Development Department on Warner Milne Road. Typical turnaround is 2–4 weeks for residential decks, longer for properties in historic districts or near the bluff edge.
Plan reviews require structural drawings showing footing depth, joist spans, ledger detail, and guardrail specs. Two specifically-Oregon-City wrinkles: properties in the McLoughlin Conservation District or other historic overlay zones require Historic Review Board approval, which can add 4–8 weeks but is non-negotiable. And properties on or near the bluff (the steep escarpment that defines upper vs. lower Oregon City) often require geotechnical review for slope stability — building too close to the edge isn't just a permitting issue, it's a safety one.
Oregon City has fewer big HOA developments than the wealthier suburbs, but newer subdivisions in Beavercreek, Park Place, and South End do typically have architectural review committees. They want stain color, railing style, and elevation drawings. Our team handles HOA submissions alongside the city permit application so both move in parallel.
Materials we install
Pressure-treated lumber — the budget option. Lasts 15–20 years in Oregon's climate with regular maintenance. Best for decks under 200 sq ft or budget-conscious rebuilds.
Western red cedar — the traditional Lake Oswego look. Beautiful, naturally rot-resistant, but needs refinishing every 2–3 years. Pairs well with the city's wooded, mid-century home aesthetic.
Composite (Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, Fiberon) — the most popular choice for Lake Oswego rebuilds in the past 5 years. Higher upfront cost but virtually maintenance-free for 25+ years. We install with hidden fasteners and brand-spec joist spacing so the warranty stays intact.
